Exactly What Should I Eat Every Day?
There is so much information bombarding us every day about food. From the latest alleged superfood through to only eat #$@% or make sure you only eat #$@%. For many of us it often gets down to the habits we have built up throughout a lifetime of both eating what’s been prepared for us, and what we know how to cook and serve.
Every day we have to fuel our bodies, and every day we have to make what feels like thousands of decisions about it. So what does healthy eating really look like and what do you need every day to fuel your amazing body?
Firstly as you get older your nutritional needs actually change you sometimes need more of certain things than younger people. This is because as we get older our bodies become less efficient at absorbing nutrients from food, and processing the nutrients once they enter your body. Unfortunately though the reverse is true for your total energy requirements. This is because the body chemistry slows down with age, and general we become less active as we get older.
Overall you need to make sure you have a high-quality, nutrient-rich diet.
I’ve listed what is recommended by the Australian Government, they are similar to ones from each government in the world, The Australian Dietary Guidelines are based on research from over 55,000 papers and put together by a team of experts.
Use this as a general guide only and either do some research or, if you want the best, work with an Accredited Practising Dietitian to help you as an individual get the best out of what you are eating. I’ve included some links in the resources section.
